Buzzards Bay Regatta

Buzzards Bay day 16

OK now that we are warmed up, I’m ready. Over? What do mean it is over? What about the day we didn’t race? What about the fact that we finally got the Loose Cannon to move in light air? Come on guys, you been working on this regatta for over a year couldn’t we just have a few more races?  Booo-day (I know the spelling is wrong, but my coon-ass buddies will get it) I am about to step on my lower lip.

I am now resigned to be complete with this regatta, I suppose I must prepare to get ready to anticipate the beginning of an opportunity for a new adventure, starting by getting the Cannon back on the trailer, and maybe fixing the lights, maybe even the brakes.

Can’t really say I had a good time, or even a great time, words are really inadequate. Emotional, physical, theoretical, maniacal, and piradical,

Yesterday the racing was tough, in spite of all my coaching, my crew let me get buried at the start, and even going left didn’t help. We did make up some time and managed to eek out a third place. The last race began in a dying breeze, and again the tactician let me down. Covered by a 27, that was covered by something, that was covered by something else, etc. I dismissed the tactician and tacked onto port, cleared the committee boat anchor rode and found clear air. Having been thwarted by numerous attempts at going my own way, we pinched and footed and tacked and clawed our way ahead of SCORN  and Family Circus. (There goes Orion with those names again),

I tried a new strategy, cover, cover, cover, stay between the competition and the next mark. Triceratops transformed into Pterodactyl and flew out over the horizon job. In Florida we say we were Randied. Loose Cannon wanted a lot more breeze but made it to the finish  behind the Dino and ahead of the rest of the group for
a second place. We accumulated 14 points with a throw out, which left us just out of the trophies. I am adjusting to it, albeit slowly. We were seriously in the competition and that was very cool.

Now I have to go clean a place in the truck for all the stuff that is in the room. Go get the boat and head for Boston and a new route to Florida. Actually, Legendary Leneman mentioned that the Summer Splash Regatta is happening in Los Angeles about September 19. If I could find enough F-Boaters between here and there let me sleep over, and some radical sailing rag to buy the gas, I could turn right in Atlanta… This could go on for a long time.
